Writing and all of that aside can we just focus on the acting? Dafoe and Pattinson deliver every single one of their lines PERFECTLY! Thomas Wake is the Old Man of the Sea and Pattinson is the Promethean that simply wanted enlightenment. Absolutely gorgeous film. To be Honest, Mermaids are naturally scary. To all the people saying this doesn"t look scary, go watch something like the gallows or the poltergeist remake you know with jump scares. The rest of us will stick to real horror.

Him running away with the mermaid flapping and screaming behind him with the lighthouse horn masterful stuff, this movie was a 10/10 when it comes to eeriness. Best film of 2019. Felt like a 70s film. Pacing was phenomenal. Great storytelling. No pandering to make the lead character virtuous. Every moment of chaos was worth it.
